Why I No Longer Speak in Absolutes
I think I was a much better parent before I had kids. Back then, my kids would never talk back and they would always do as they were told. I would never lose my temper and I would always stand my ground. I had the whole thing figured out. I saw the parents with screaming kids and thought there is no way any child of mine will ever act like that! (As if I would have a magic look that would stop a hysterical 2-year-old in his tracks!) Boy was I wrong about it all. Turns out I have gone back on most everything I said I would never do.…

The Difference Between Moms and Dads
Let me preface this post with a couple of statements. This is not meant to belittle the role of dads, or to say that dads don’t pull their weight. This is not a rant post or me complaining about all that I have to do. I am sure there are families where my theory does not apply. It is simply an observation of the roles within my home, as well as many of my friends’. But here goes. Oh the Humiliation
So I’m pretty sure every parent has one of these. That low point when your kids embarrass you so badly you want to crawl in a hole. There are the minor infractions such as when your child asks the woman with a man’s haircut at the grocery store if she is a boy or a girl. Oh, from the mouths of babes. While quite humiliating, it’s an innocent question that meant no harm from an inquisitive toddler trying to figure out the world around them. But then there are the doozies. The kind that you swore would never, ever, ever happen to you, because somehow you’d be awesome at this…

What happened to my house?
Pre-kids, my home was reasonably put together, modernly decorated and clutter-free. My main living space downstairs was cozy and clean, a place for everything, and everything in its place. And then I got pregnant and started looking into the “equipment” necessary to care for a baby. I talked to experienced mothers to figure out what we needed. A pack-n-play, a swing, a changing station, activity mat, bouncy seat, Bumbo seat, Boppy pillows, and the list continued. Ok, I thought, it’s a lot of stuff, but it seemed reasonable. I’m not sure where I thought this stuff would go, but certainly not my comfy, cozy living space! As my due date…

Trying to Raise an Un-Picky Eater
So I’m not an expert on this topic. I’m not claiming that this will work on every child, and I think that even if someone tries all of these things, they may still have a picky eater. My husband and I would consider ourselves “foodies” and the thought of having to limit our nightly menus due to a child with a picky palate was less than desirable. So we set out very early on with our first to try every trick we could think of to prevent a picky eater. Below are the 8 food rules we live by… 1) Exposure – I think this was the biggest contributor to…
